He says his committee’s report is “quite ruthless” and discovered Mr Sharp had actually “broken the guidelines”.
“Mr Sharp helped with a massive £800,000 loan to Boris Johnson, the then prime minister, and it was Boris Johnson who selected Richard Sharpe as BBC chair,” the SNP MP says.
“So plainly that’s a dispute of interest. He didn’t inform his recruiters and he didn’t inform us as MPs who were then asked to consider his appointment.
“When he appeared prior to us recently, he didn’t appear to believe that he had actually done anything incorrect, which I discovered difficult since plainly he broke the guidelines.”
He says Mr Sharp’s technique to MPs when he appeared prior to the committee was “hotty” and “entitled”.
“If I had actually been him and understood that I’d done something as severely incorrect as he had actually done, I believe he would have apologised on the area. He sat prior to us for the entire hearing and stopped working to apologise at any point,” he includes.
He goes on to state “as I said to Mr Sharp it is all a bit banana republic”.
