OTTAWA — The Liberal federal government is anticipated to reveal the renewal of its multimillion-dollar federal weapon and gang violence program today.
Ottawa says Marco Mendicino, federal Minister of Public Safety, will make a statement at 9:30 a.m. about the federal government’s work to avoid weapon and gang violence.
In November 2017, the federal government revealed around $327.6 million in brand-new federal financing over 5 years to take on a boost in weapon violence and gang activity in Canada, with funds set to begin streaming in 2018-19.
The federal government says the effort included federal, provincial and territorial efforts to support “community-level prevention and enforcement efforts.”
