MEDICATION HAT, AB – Proclaimed in 1996, National Indigenous Peoples Day is today, accompanying the summertime solstice.
Jace Anderson, the executive director for Tourism Medicine Hat, says that he’s thrilled for the occasions as it brings awareness and to commemorate the history and culture of the Indigenous neighborhood.
Events start at 9 a.m. at Kin Park, where a Medicine Hat Sunshine Trolley will carry individuals on a directed trip to the Saamis Teepee, Saamis Archeological Site and what was the Metis Community in Saratoga Park. Tickets can be purchased online at the Tourism Medicine Hat website.
Afterwards, at 11 a.m., once again at Kin Park, there will be a powwow discussion, a teepee display screen, food trucks and face painting. You can call Saamis Employment and Training at 403-504-4056 to get more information about this occasion.
