Utah Sen. Mitt Romney says he would not have a place in right this moment’s Republican Party, in an interview with “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell, to be broadcast on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” Sunday, October 22 and streamed on Paramount+.
In a wide-ranging interview with the previous Republican presidential nominee and his spouse, Ann, Romney explores his political profession, why he determined to depart the Senate, his future, and a brand new biography, “Romney: A Reckoning,” written by McKay Coppins and printed by Scribner (an imprint of CBS’ sister firm Simon & Schuster).
Here are some excerpts:
NORAH O’DONNELL: “Privately, what do you hear from fellow Republicans within the Senate?”
MITT ROMNEY: “I do not suppose I’ve heard a single member of my caucus, the Republicans within the Senate, say, ‘You know, Donald Trump is nice. Aren’t we fortunate to have him as our chief?’ … Donald Trump represents a failure of character, which is altering, I feel, in lots of respects, the psyche of our nation and the center of our nation. And that is one thing which takes a very long time – if ever – to restore.”

NORAH O’DONNELL: “You have been as soon as the occasion’s nominee, and now you are a pariah within the Republican Party.”
MITT ROMNEY: “Yeah, that is, that is saying it in a delicate method, yeah. I imply, yeah, no query.
