Brighton CEO Paul Barber confesses Moises Caicedo has actually been ‘unsettled’ by the Chelsea transfer legend.
He firmly insists the Seagulls are still wanting to keep the gamer at the club this summer season, although admits anything can occur in the last weeks of the summer season transfer window.
Speaking ahead of Brighton’s Premier League opener versus Luton, Barber said: “For a young player like Moises at 21, probably one of the best midfield players in the world already at his age, certainly one of the best in Europe, we’ve had a fantastic time working with Moises and we want that time to continue – we’ve got him under a long contract.
“But we’re also realistic to know that there is interest in him and, as a young man, that interest is inevitably going to have an impact on your thought processes and unsettle you a little bit, we understand that.
“But for now he’s a Brighton player, he’s under contract, we expect him to work hard and prepare for the new season and we’ll see what happens as the window goes on.”
Assked if his mind remains in the best location to bet Luton, Barber responded: “That’s really a question for Roberto [De Zerbi] and ultimately with Moises himself.
“He had a very, very slight hamstring strain at the back-end of last week, a little bit of tightness in those muscles, and we pulled him out of a friendly as a precaution, obviously with a view to Luton visiting here later this week.
“But the window has a long way to go. We’d love to keep him, he’s a really important player and we’ll see where we are.”
