JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday withdrawed his choice to fire his defense minister over criticism of the federal government’s controversial strategy to revamp the judiciary.
In a telecasted speech, Netanyahu said that Yoav Gallant is remaining in his post. “I decided to put the differences we had behind us,” he said.
Netanyahu revealed late last month that Gallant was fired. The choice triggered a wave of spontaneous mass demonstrations and a basic strike that threatened to incapacitate the nation, requiring the Israeli leader to suspend his dissentious strategy to revamp the judicial system.
