Activist opera business, White Snake Projects, is set to the opening night of “MONKEY: A Kung Fu Puppet Parable” on Sep. 22-24, 2023.
Per a main press declaration released by the business, author Jorge Sosa and creator/librettist Cerise Lim Jacobs‘ “Monkey” is a family-friendly transmedia program including life-scaled Bunraku puppetry, Kung Fu, computer system created images, and live opera. Drawing motivation form the Chinese myth “Monkey King: Journey to the West,” the duo reworded the opera to show modern concerns from the multicultural mosaic of American life.
Countertenor Chuanyuan Liu sings the title function next to bass John Paul Huckleas as Zhu, mezzo-soprano Maria Lopez in the function of Shu. Other cast members consist of sopranos Carami Hilaire and Cristina Maria Castro. Lizzy Stant, Alexis Peart, David Rivera Bozon, and Andrew Stack with Voices Boston comprise the ensemble.
Alongside the primary characters Monkey, Zhu, and Shu puppeteers will help to the representation of these primary charcters. The production is sung in English.
