Lexington, MA snake on the loose was a misconception – NBC Boston

It appears reports that a boa constrictor was wriggling complimentary around Lexington, Massachusetts, were in fact a misconception.

The Lexington Police Department published a picture to their Facebook page Wednesday cautioning the general public to keep an eye out for the snake, which they believed was a family pet that had actually in some way left or was set loose and was roaming near the center of town, near CVS. While it was ruled out harmful to people, authorities asked the general public to keep away if they identified it and to report sightings to the department.

So what are the truths? Police state there was a boa constrictor at the Center location of town on Sunday, however it appears it was never ever on the loose – obviously, its owner put it on the ground to permit individuals to take some images.

A group of kids started texting about the snake, sharing the pictures. That’s when a worried parent saw the pictures and believed the reptile was strolling complimentary and called it into Lexington’s animal control officer.

Police think the owner took the animal home after the pictures were taken – though they are still attempting to recognize that individual, and ask that they call animal control.

It is legal to own most types of boas and pythons as family pets in Massachusetts, according to the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. These snakes are not typically thought about harmful to people.
