An historic snake species, named Vasuki indicus, has been found by Indian palaeontologists in a coal mine in Panandro, Gujarat. The newly found reptile lived 47 million years in the past within the swampy evergreen forests of western India. According to scientists who printed the findings within the journal
Scientific Reports, its weight might have been as much as a tonne.
Belonging to the Madtsoiidae household, this newly recognized species is believed to have been a gradual predator that might ambush and squeeze its prey, just like anacondas or pythons.
Scientists speculate that these historic snakes originated within the Indian subcontinent. After amalgamation, the snakes migrated throughout the southern areas of Eurasia and entered northern Africa. The crew anticipates that future excavations will present additional proof in favour of their conclusions.
