A resident appeared to the Dunkirk Common Council conference last month with strategies and pleas for a water source at the city dog park on Main Street Extension.
City authorities, consisting of council members and Department of Public Works Director Randy Woodbury, sounded encouraging of Ed Richardson’s strategy.
Richardson given out binders with a discussion to city authorities prior to speaking. “As an advocate for animal welfare and community well-bring, I firmly believe that providing dogs with a source of water within the Hazelton Dog Park is essential for several compelling reasons,” he said. These factors consisted of health of dogs, motivating accountable ownership, and improvement of the park to get more individuals to utilize it.
Richardson entered to list many examples of water sources at other dog parks. His relative, Lana Richardson, likewise spoke, specifying that she worked for Purina and was informed that the business has an interest in assisting to money the task.
Councilwoman Natalie Luczkowiak later on called the Richardsons’ discussion “very impressive and thorough. I like your idea of getting sponsorships, maybe for benches. I would suggest finding a fiscal sponsor, such as Chautauqua Opportunities. I think people would be more likely to donate if you had a fiscal sponsor.”
Councilwoman Nancy Nichols said to the Richardsons, “I was very active in the dog park, still am … we’ve talked about putting water out where the shelter is so we could have a sudsing station, if they got dirty to rinse them off there. I don’t know what progress we’ve made for this year doing it.”
She included that “Purina has been very gracious helping us out,” keeping in mind trees they contributed and committed at the website in 2015.
“I would like to get something there, anywhere, immediately,” said Woodbury. “At the shelter (next to the park) would be relatively easy. We have a master plumber on staff — if we could work with Purina to maybe where we do the labor and Purina supplies. There’s a nice list of watering devices in (Richardson’s plan) that would work. Purina could put their logo on that, we’d be happy to have it, advertise Purina’s generosity and community spirit. And we’d plumb it in and the dogs could collect their water there.”
Putting a water source inside the park would be harder, Woodbury included, however doing it outside the shelter ought to be reasonably simple.
