GARY, Ind. (WISH) — An authorities dog with the Gary Police Department was shot and killed throughout an authorities foot pursuit Thursday afternoon in Gary, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department says.
According to a Facebook post by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, an officer with the Gary Police Department and Falco were pursuing a 29-year-old man who was desired for worsened battery and criminal recklessness. During the pursuit, the man opened fire and hit Falco. The officer associated with the pursuit was not hurt and the suspect was collared.
Police did not instantly launch the identity of the man who shot Falco.
Falco was ten years old, and worked as an authorities K-9 for 8 years. His stays were required to the Hobart Animal Clinic in Hobart, Indiana.
