A person whose canine needed to be put down after he deserted it inside a cage for a number of days with “meals out of attain and no water” has been jailed for six months.

The Scottish SPCA discovered the animal mendacity within the container on a blanket soaked in urine and coated in faeces.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) stated the canine was “so weak he could not even elevate his head” and needed to be instantly euthanised attributable to “excessive struggling”.

Owner Daryl Torrance, 34, of Mauchline in East Ayrshire, has additionally been banned from proudly owning or protecting pets for 10 years after pleading responsible to a cost of animal neglect.

Torrance was sentenced at Ayrshire Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in October 2022.

The courtroom heard how the Scottish SPCA have been alerted amid considerations a canine had been left for lengthy durations of time and was believed to be locked within the again room of a flat.

COPFS stated the animal welfare officers compelled entry to the empty property and have been met with an “overpowering stench of ammonia within the stairwell”.

The male brindle and white crossbreed was present in a bed room in an “emaciated and collapsed state”.

COPFS stated there was a bowl of untouched pet food on the different nook of the cage “that he would have been unable to achieve and no water”.

After being examined by a vet, it was determined euthanasia was the one choice because of the canine’s poor bodily situation.

A microchip revealed Torrance was the registered proprietor.

Alistair Duncan, assistant procurator fiscal for north Strathclyde, stated: “This was an appalling instance of animal cruelty.

“This poor canine was left deserted for a major interval and suffered the horrible penalties of Daryl Torrance’s stunning neglect.

“The regulation protects animals from hurt and COPFS will proceed to work robustly to make sure anybody who breaks the regulation faces prosecutorial motion.”
