​A Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a dog Thursday early morning as it was actively biting a man.

​According to an LCSO press release, the occurrence took place around 11:30 a.m. in the location of Lincoln Avenue and First Street in north Fort Collins.

The deputy was driving through the location when he saw a man dealing with a big dog near Buckingham Park. As he got more detailed, he saw that the dog was actively biting the man, who was not able to leave, the release said.

The deputy physically stepped in and numerous spectators likewise attempted to help; they had the ability to separate the dog from the victim briefly, however the dog reengaged and started assaulting the man once again.

“Nobody ever wants to end the life of an animal,​” he said, including that the deputy ​needed to make a challenging option to stop even more severe damage to the man ​who was being whipped.

The victim, numerous witnesses and ​the dog were all understood to each other​, the release included.

​T​he sheriff’s workplace will perform an internal evaluation of the deputy’s usage of force in accordance with company policy. Since the occurrence happened within city limitations, Fort Collins Police Services reacted and will examine the scenarios surrounding the dog attack.
