Rosendale authorities spot
ROSENDALE, N.Y. — First responders worked Tuesday to effectively stop a victim’s “uncontrollable bleeding” after the individual was assaulted by a dog on Madeline Lane, Rosendale authorities said Thursday.
The attack triggered a lockdown at the close-by Rosendale Recreation Center and at a day camp there, authorities said Thursday.
On Tuesday, July 11, Rosendale authorities reacted to the reported attack after they were informed a Rottweiler was “ripping the arm off” of a victim.
Responding officers had the ability to separate the dog from the victim and securely secure the animal, authorities said. The unknown victim “received severe injuries and had uncontrollable bleeding at the time, which resulted in tourniquets being applied to prevent death,” authorities said. The victim was taken by ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
The Ulster County SPCA took custody of the dog and after an examination, consisting of an evaluation of previous events including the dog, it was euthanized, authorities said. The dog had actually formerly been a rescue animal, according to authorities.
The Town of Rosendale Police Department was helped at the scene by the New York State Police, Ulster County SPCA, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, and Mobile Life Support Services.
