DETROIT (FOX 2) – A Detroit man was sentenced to probation Thursday after beating a puppy because she broke his sunglasses previously this year.
Lenard Shaw received a three-year probation sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree killing/torturing an animal. A charge of abandoning/cruelty to one animal was dismissed.
Videos revealed Shaw striking and tossing the little pitbull puppy while shouting about his damaged Cartier sunglasses on March 1. He consistently held up the sunglasses and blamed the dog, who was sobbing and motionless on her side in the video.
After the pounding, the puppy who is called Lady was discarded in a trashcan. She endured the abuse.
A judge said throughout Shaw’s arraignment that Lady is a psychological assistance dog. Her owner was hospitalized when the pounding occurred.
Two weeks after the supposed criminal activity, the owner remained in her home when she heard weeping and went outside to discover the puppy in a trashcan.
