A 4-month-old puppy is safe and recuperating after she was seriously hurt by a McHenry man who struck her, triggering her to end up being unconscious and suffer bleeding, authorities said.

The McHenry Police Department reacted around 12:23 p.m. last Wednesday to the Hillcrest Apartments in the 1900 block of North Orleans Street in McHenry.

McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Michael Spohn said a next-door neighbor called 911 due to the fact that they were worried after hearing a dog yelping.

Officers got here and heard a dog yelping and sobbing inside a home.

They spoke to the owner, Joseph L. Lekics II, 32, who lives at the apartment building.

The officer asked to see the dog and observed it was unconscious and bleeding from the mouth, Spohn said.

The dog, a 4-month-old female Alaskan Husky, was likewise drooling and having difficulty breathing. Court files state the dog had inflamed eyes.

Lekics was put under arrest for animal cruelty and the dog was transferred to an animal medical facility in Crystal Lake for treatment.

It was unidentified for how long the dog was at first unconscious, Spohn said. A cops report said the dog remained in and out of awareness while being transferred to the medical facility.

Lekics is charged with exacerbated cruelty to animals, a Class 4 felony, court records reveal.

A criminal problem said Lekics triggered the severe injuries to the puppy by striking it.

The McHenry Police Department said in an update Wednesday the puppy is resting conveniently and is safe.

She remains in protective custody and the examining officer on the case is in touch daily with the dog’s case employee, the department said.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge bought Lekics hung on a $15,000 bond throughout a hearing Thursday.

Police said the puppy is not available for cultivating yet due to the fact that she requires to be in a secure place throughout of the examination.

“Protective custody is the safest place for her to heal,” the department said.

Police authorities state that citizens trying to find methods to help animals must try to find trusted rescue groups and animal shelters to adopt from.

Lekics stays kept in the McHenry County Jail and would require to publish $1,500 money in order to be launched.
