Virginia Hospital Staff Rescue 6-Week-Old Kitten Found in Paper Bag in Dumpster

Staff at a Virginia healthcare facility let the cat out of the bag — actually.


Employees at a medical facility in Roanoke, consisting of a medical facility law enforcement officer, saved a kitten after it was found abandoned in a paper bag in a dumpster on Monday.


An worker of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, part of Carilion Clinic, heard a “worrying” noise originating from a dumpster near the healthcare facility, according to a Facebook post from regional animal well-being organization Angels of Assisi.

The employee then asked among the healthcare facility’s policeman, whose name badge checks out J.A. Grotta, to analyze the scene, where he found the source of the sound — an abandoned kitten.


At just 6 weeks old, the fuzzy feline was positioned in a paper grocery bag, then left in a medical facility dumpster.




In among the pictures the animal well-being organization published, the gray-eyed tuxedo cat is hardly huge enough to suit the officer’s hand. In another, the kitten looks straight at the cam as an Angels of Assisi worker holds him on their shoulder.


A last picture shared by the organization reveals the Kroger grocery bag the kitten was discovered in.



“We’ve called this charming boy Toby,” the organization composed in the post detailing his rescue.


Angels of Assisi shared that the tuxedo cat received veterinary care and is presently “in a caring foster home getting great deals of TLC.”


Toby will remain in foster care “up until he is old enough to be embraced,” the post said.

Community members gathered to the post’s remark area, thanking the officer and organization for conserving the little meower.


“What is incorrect with this world???” one commenter composed. “My little Tuxie cat was a dumpster infant, too. So glad somebody discovered him!”




In a post on Angels of Assisi’s Instagram account including the exact same pictures and caption, Carilion Clinic reacted, commenting, “Glad to help! Thank you for taking care of Toby and helping him find a home 😍.”
