Declawing cats will quickly be unlawful in Virginia.
According to the invoice signed by Governor Glenn Youngkin, it “Makes illegal the apply of declawing cats for any person engaged within the apply of veterinary drugs besides as obligatory for a therapeutic objective.”
According to a PETA consultant, declawing entails not simply the elimination of the nail however “actually the amputation of the first digit of every paw.”
There are some exceptions to the regulation, like a illness, irregular situation, or medical necessity.
The invoice was proposed by Delegate Marty Martinez (D-Twenty ninth District) and handed the House of Delegates on a 58 to 41 vote, and the Senate on a 25 to 13 vote.
The regulation goes into impact in July.
