Crews rapidly included a plant life fire that broke out in Cat Canyon Thursday afternoon.
Santa Barbara County Fire public info officer Scott Safechuck said the two-alarm fire began at 4:24 p.m. Thursday in the 6000 block of Cat Canyon beyond Santa Maria, and teams stopped the blaze’s forward development at 5:30 p.m.
Safechuck said there were medium to heavy fuels, a minor wind and the fire was working its method to a north slope in the canyon as 3 air tankers were asked for to help fight the blaze.
The tankers and an assistance helicopter were ultimately launched around 5:40 p.m., Safechuck said.
The fire, called the Cat Incident, rapidly grew to a minimum of 5 acres and Safechuck said there was a downed power line at 6730 Palmer Road.
Safechuck said landing crew would continue working to complete containment lines and continue with mopping up locations. He said the acreage will be figured out and the fire is under examination.
