This April, Ginza Six buying centre is celebrating its seventh anniversary with a putting new set up in its atrium. The paintings, titled ‘Big Cat Bang’,’ options two astronauts – a pair of cats – aboard a vessel paying homage to Taro Okamoto’s iconic ‘Tower of the Sun’. Set to be displayed till summer season 2025, the set up displays the signature type of its artist, Kenji Yanobe, exploring dystopian themes with a vibrant palette whereas paying tribute to Okamoto’s legendary piece created for Expo ’70 in Osaka.

‘Big Cat Bang’ is a part of Yanobe’s ‘Ship’s Cat’ collection, which the artist started in 2017. The collection attracts inspiration from maritime cats that protected sailors by looking disease-spreading rats throughout the Age of Exploration.

The centrepiece is displayed at Ginza Six together with a 1/50 scale mannequin of the ‘Tower of the Sun’ from the 1970 Osaka Expo, exhibited on the fourth ground alongside three different sculptures from the Ship’s Cat collection.

Additionally, the rooftop backyard at Ginza Six will host an interactive artwork park by Brooklyn-based artist duo Wade and Leta (Wade Jeffree and Leta Sobierajski), marking their first look in Japan. The Kanze Noh Theatre can be scheduled to carry out a conventional ‘Candle Noh’ on May 3, including to the cultural choices throughout this anniversary celebration.
