CAT house owners within the Surf Coast Shire are invited to attend drop-in periods this month to assist transition to the brand new 24-hour cat curfew, which begins on September 30.
The August 19 drop-in periods will probably be held by the shire’s Ranger Services crew on the Torquay Farmers Market (9.30-10.30am), Anglesea Community House (11.30am-12.30pm) and the Winchelsea Shire Hall (2-3pm).
The shire’s revised cat curfew orders would require all cats inside the municipality to be confined always to their proprietor’s residence until the cat is appropriately restrained.
Cr Rose Hodge stated the approaching periods would give locals extra data on how modifications might be made to their properties and to their cat’s behaviour, to allow them to adjust to the 24-hour curfew.
“The revised curfew is prone to scale back registered cats’ affect on neighbours and their pets, wildlife and turning into a nuisance.
“The drop-in periods will assist a clean transition to the up to date curfew, providing cat house owners the possibility to ask our Rangers questions and to seek out out extra about what you are able to do to stop your cat from roaming outdoors your premises.
“While these might seem like significant steps, it’s important to note that cat owners already have a legal obligation to ensure their cat doesn’t trespass on other people’s properties.”
The shire’s earlier cat curfew required cats in city zones to be solely securely confined to the proprietor’s premises from 8pm to 6am. There was no curfew in rural-zoned areas.
