The owner of a cat rescue thinks 3 recent “disturbing” occurrences of abandoned moggies might be connected.

Over the recently, Andy Richards, who runs Happy Cats Hyndburn, has actually had 3 cats discovered abandoned in near similar cat providers in Accrington, raising the concern regarding whether the occurrences are connected.

One cat was discovered in the entrance of the rescue centre on Blackburn Road in the early hours of Friday early morning, the 2nd cat was discovered at the side of the roadway the very same early morning, and after that on Tuesday (August 1), a comparable looking feline was discovered discarded in a provider on Eastgate parking lot.

Mr Richards said: “It could all be coincidental or these disturbing happenings could be linked.

“The black cat was found at 6am last Friday by a lady walking to work.

“She’d been left in the doorway of the Happy Cats Hyndburn shop on Blackburn Road.

“This cat, like the others, was very lucky that someone nice found her. The alternatives aren’t worth thinking about.

“We don’t know how long the cat had been there. She could have been there all night, or she might have just been left in the early morning.

“Whichever, it was an incredibly reckless act to leave a cat in a shop doorway in the town centre. Anything could have happened to this cat.

“The same morning, a tabby cat was found at the side of the road, again in a cat carrier, at Wensley Drive, Accrington.

“No-one in the surrounding houses has any connection to cat rescue so it appears that this cat was just randomly dumped.

“The most sinister part of this is the fact that the carrier was brand new, so there’s a suspicion that it was bought for the purpose of taking this cat and abandoning her somewhere.

“It could be someone who didn’t want a neighbour’s cat in their garden and decided to remove her.

“Then on Tuesday, yet another cat was found on Eastgate car park, again in a cat carrier. This cat looks very much like the other tabby, so the two could well have come from the same place.”

Mr Richards said all 3 cats are safe now, however the result might have been extremely various if individuals with “evil intent” had actually discovered them.

He went on: “This is all very worrying as if this becomes a trend, it will have dire repercussions for the welfare of cats and for the cat rescues in the area, like my rescue, Happy Cats Hyndburn, who are absolutely stretched beyond breaking point this year with wave after wave of unwanted and stray cats.

“Alternatively, if these cats have been taken from their homes, we’d dearly love to reunite them.”
