Cat dies in house fireplace Thursday, RFD says

RACINE — No residents had been injured, however one cat died in an house fireplace on Eighteenth Street on Thursday morning, in keeping with the Racine Fire Department.

RFD responded to the 800 block of Eighteenth Street at 11 a.m. for a front room fireplace within the decrease unit of a duplex, in keeping with RFD Lt. Kirk Bezdicek. 

Two tenants from the higher unit found the hearth and safely evacuated the building, in keeping with Bezdicek. The decrease unit was unoccupied on the time of the hearth. 

The estimated construction injury is $120,000 and the estimated contents injury is $40,000, in keeping with RFD.

The explanation for the hearth is underneath investigation, Bezdicek mentioned.
