Aug. 2—The Pages for Pets program was released by the Reading Library District this summer season with hopes of getting Berks kids to check out 500,000 minutes in order to money the sponsorship of the adoption costs for an animal at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
The excited readers far gone beyond that objective by keeping their eyes on books for more than 680,000 minutes in between June 19 and July 28, Marissa Guidara, youth services district specialist for the Reading Library District, revealed Tuesday.
The Animal Rescue League of Berks County revealed that an 8-year-old all black cat called Agent 007 will be the animal whose adoption cost is covered by the Reading Library District.
There are 25 Reading Library District — a state classification — areas throughout Berks. They consist of the 23 areas of the Berks County Public Libraries System in addition to the independent Wyomissing Public Library and Oley Valley Community Library.
The ARL explains Agent 007 as a “cuddly spy cat” who “takes pleasure in relaxing in his preferred sunbeam and seeing the world pass from a relaxing windowsill,” on its website.
“Our youth and customers enjoyed collaborating on this obstacle this summer season and are so happy to be able to support the Animal Rescue League,” Guidara said. “We are one action better to finding Agent 007 a permanently home.”
