Bird Box Barcelona has actually gotten here on Netflix, and it might simply be the start of a broader Bird Box universe on Netflix.

It’s possible that instead of a direct sequel, the streaming service decided to go for the cinematic universe approach with multiple spin-offs (assuming Bird Box Barcelona is a hit, of course).
We’ve heard nothing else about Bird Box 2, but Malerman has released a sequel novel called Malorie which could be adapted as a direct sequel film to Bird Box.
A sign that Netflix might not be looking to continue the story of Malorie (at least, not yet) is that Bird Box Barcelona ends with a sequel tease of its own. Major spoilers after the photo if you haven’t seen the film yet.
After Claire and Sofia get to safety at Montjuïc, an army doctor reveals to Claire that they’re currently working on creating immunity to the creatures, using a genetic alteration to the DNA of “seers” (the people who can see the creatures, but survive).
This is taking place more than four years before the end of Bird Box which saw Malorie and her two children make it to safety at a former school for the blind. There was no hint of a cure in that film, however maybe Malorie just hadn’t found out about it yet.
It leaves Netflix with three ways it can go forward with the Bird Box universe if there’s another movie: a direct sequel to Bird Box Barcelona, a direct sequel to Bird Box or another spin-off movie set in the same timeline.
If it’s the latter, it opens the possibility of a future movie bringing together the various casts of the spin-off movies. It’d be like The Avengers, however with post-apocalyptic creatures as the threat.
As mentioned prior to though, nothing has been validated so the future of the Bird Box series is unwritten as of yet. Don’t be surprised if Bird Box Barcelona isn’t the last we see of this world however.
