Sprouting between home windows and tucked round corners, Steeven Salvat’s wheatpastes add a dose of pure historical past to on a regular basis city life. The French artist has spent the previous couple of years meticulously rendering gem- and mechanic-encrusted beetles and butterflies, amassing an enormous insectarium that attracts consideration to the intersections of artwork, science, and historical past and underscores the preciousness of every creature.

During the final two years, although, Salvat has begun to persistently work open air and on partitions, creating public items that seize his painstaking linework on a bigger scale. Whether painted in acrylic or slathered with wheatpaste, the life like renderings are equally detailed and delicate, conveying the graceful fur of a discipline mouse or the fluffed plumage of a hen mid-flight. Many of his recent works, a part of the continued Petite Nature undertaking, pair renditions of outsized dried flowers with tiny creatures “to awaken awareness on the fragility of ecosystems such as grasslands and natural water points, often sacrificed in the name of urbanisation.”

In addition to the wall works, Petite Nature additionally options smaller drawings on paper, which will probably be on view in January at Le Cabinet d’Amateur in Paris.
