Calls for chimney fowl guards following Tawny Owl rescue

The public have been urged to put in fowl guards of their chimneys following the rescue of two Tawny Owls in Norfolk.

Chimney sweep Darrel Cucu went to a home in Corpusty after the house owners heard hooting from their chimney. He needed to take away a woodburner earlier than he might have a look, and noticed the owls’ staring again at him, because the Eastern Daily Press first reported.

Owl predicament

The sweep managed to steer one owl down, and it flew on to a window sill – and he captured the opposite in his hand.

Asked how they could have ended up on this predicament, Mr Cucu stated: “They in all probability simply fell in. That’s a standard difficulty and it occurs typically to birds.”

He stated one of the best ways to keep away from an identical mishap was to “match a fowl wire on to your chimney”, which, he added, was particularly necessary if the home’s chimney was now not getting used and had been plastered over at floor stage.
