New Brighton RNLI team applauded after lifesaving rescue

Christine Robinson, 57, from Eastham unfortunately lost her life after being swept into the river off Kings Parade in New Brighton on July 6, 2020.

RNLI Trustee, Fiona Fell and John Payne, RNLI lifesaving operations director, gone to New Brighton lifeboat station on Thursday (July 21) to applaud the team for its function in the rescue.

Fiona provided her personal thanks to the helm and provided volunteer team members Nelson Ramsey, Emily Craven and Thomas McGinn with awards when they checked out the station on Thursday.

The RNLI Trustee provided a Framed Letter of Appreciation signed by the charity’s Chief Executive and a Medal Service Certificate to all 3 for their private guts, cumulative team effort, and decision to save a life throughout the event.

“Helm Michael Stannard has actually deservedly received his bronze gallantry medal, and I’m so happy to hear the team’s work has actually been acknowledged through a Letter of Appreciation along with private Medal Service Certificates.”

Earlier this year, the RNLI volunteers and lifeguard who went to the family’s rescue were granted with a Merseyside Police Chief Constable’s commendation in acknowledgment of their actions.

The commendation was granted to RNLI helm, Michael Stannard, team members Oz Ramsey, Emily Craven and Thomas McGinn together with RNLI lifeguard senior Lifeguard Cameron Jacobie.

Ian Thornton, RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat Operations Manager said at the time: “This commendation is an honour for the New Brighton team and the lifeguards who went to provide help, it is heartening for us to be acknowledged in this method.

“However, this was a terrible event, and our ideas stay with the family that were associated with this extremely challenging service.

“As a team, the volunteers constantly launch in the objective to save everybody; sadly, this isn’t constantly possible.

“The group of RNLI New Brighton are incredibly pleased with all our group.

“Without doubt, they saved the lives of the male casualty and the dog that day.”
