The Dogs Trust has paused rescuing XL American Bulldogs in Scotland after the breed was banned south of the border.

The animal charity mentioned it made the “tough determination” to droop consumption of dogs suspected to be an XL Bully breed whereas it awaits an update from the Scottish Government.

But it informed XL Bully house owners to “keep calm” and “not panic”  because it urged them to not give up their pets to rescue shelters as they could not be capable to be rehomed if the breed is banned in Scotland.

XL Bullies have been added to the banned breeds listing underneath the Dangerous Dogs Act in England and Wales, the place it was made unlawful from December 31.

But the Scottish Government has not but confirmed if it would ban the breed, which has been linked to a lot of deadly assaults on people.

A spokesperson for the Dogs Trust mentioned: “We are urging American Bully XL house owners in Scotland to remain calm and never panic.

“We consider the most effective place for a canine is at home with their household. Until the Scottish Government declares any modifications to the law in Scotland, we have now made the tough determination to pause the consumption of dogs suspected to be an American Bully XL-type into our rehoming centres.

“Taking a canine that would probably be typed as an American Bully XL into our kennels could also be detrimental to the canine’s future as, if a ban is introduced in Scotland, we could also be unable to personal or switch possession of those dogs. “

Dogs Trust is offering behaviour recommendation to XL Bully house owners via its Behaviour Support Line and has additional data on its web site.

The charity is a part of the Dog Control Coalition, which has spoken out in opposition to the ban of American XL Bullies.

Its members, together with the SSPCA, Kennel Club, and British Veterinary Association, mentioned in a joint assertion: “The Dog Control Coalition agrees that pressing motion must be taken to guard the general public from out-of-control dogs, however we’re upset that the Government hasn’t taken the chance to fully overhaul the Dangerous Dogs Act.

“With its continued give attention to particular breeds, relatively than a give attention to prevention and implementation of more durable penalties for these house owners not accountable for their dogs, it isn’t match for objective.”
