A dog was fatally shot by police on Tuesday night following an incident at Trigg Beach.
A WA Police spokesman said the animal was killed around 7pm after it became aggressive towards an officer and two smaller dogs.
“Police were called to a car park at Trigg Beach, following a concern for welfare report,” he said.
“Upon attendance, officers attempted to speak with a female, who was in the company of a dog, however, she fled on foot down a beach track.
“The dog then became aggressive towards officers and OC spray was deployed.”
The spokesman alleged a short time later the woman was arrested on the beach and returned to the car park.
“At this time, the dog approached and attacked two small dogs who were walking nearby in the company of a member of the community,” he said.
“An officer then fatally shot the larger dog to prevent further injury to those present.”
One of the smaller dogs was seriously injured and was taken for emergency medical assistance.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
