China’s MAD Architects has designed the Lishui Airport in Zhejiang Province, with a roof overhang giving it the looks of an enormous silver chicken able to take off over the mountains.
Located 15km southwest of Lishui, the airport’s type reduces elevation adjustments and its visible affect on the panorama.
The 12,100-sq-m building has a wood-toned inside with a shuttle-shaped skylight.
Departure areas shall be on the bottom ground, with ready areas on the second.
The airport is estimated to accommodate 1,000,000 passengers every year.
Ma Yansong, MAD Architects’ founder mentioned, “Lishui is a backyard metropolis, and her airport also needs to be in a backyard.
“As a municipal airport, Lishui Airport embodies the essence of transportation facilities as a public space, prioritising convenience, human scale, and city identity over sheer size and extravagance.”
