Andrew Rosenberg, DVM, DACVD: The most vital factor to learn about a canine’s ear anatomy is that there are breed variations and individual variations, most significantly, tympanic membrane. The look can look very totally different between individual dogs. And so far as breeds go, there are some breeds with naturally stenotic, or narrowed ear canals.
The Shar-Pei is essentially the most classically described canine like this, but in addition our brachycephalic dogs like Boston terriers and French bulldogs are likely to have extra stenotic ear canals than most different breeds.
