LONDON — Canada’s Carol Zhao beat Britain’s Emily Appleton 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the preliminary of certifying play at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
Zhao, ranked 166 worldwide, will deal with Arantxa Rus in the next round. The Dutch gamer is seeded 2nd in the certifying draw and beat Daria Snigur to advance.
Rus, ranked No. 85 worldwide, formerly reached Wimbledon’s 3rd round in 2012.
Eugenie Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., lost 4-6, 5-7 to Belgian Greet Minnen in certifying play.
