A mini dachshund’s nervous first steps in the snow have been captured in a video that has been dubbed “the cutest thing ever” on TikTok.
The dog, Sophie, might have been left feeling chilly on her very first snowy day, but the footage showcasing her first experience of the white stuff is proving heartwarming to viewers.
The video, posted to TikTok under the handle sophiethedoxie, has been watched over 6.9 million times, with some viewers confessing to being left close to tears at the cuteness of the dachshund’s snowy antics.

Snow always generates a lot of excitement for people and it would seem humans are not alone in their appreciation of it. According to dog and cat behavior consultant Amelia Wieber, many of our canine companions are often just as thrilled as us at the sight of snow and for similar reasons.
Wieber told Daily Paws that, to a dog, the excitement lies in the fact “it changes the appearance of the landscape, it’s fun to throw around, and it feels cool to roll in it.”
With canines often viewing the world around them in the context of a daily walk, arriving at a familiar spot to find it covered in snow is bound to be a source of some excitement. However, Wieber said it’s more than just that.
“Snow likely has its own scent to dogs, and it may cover or enhance different scents whether they were laid before, during, or after the snow,” she said. “Snow also gives dogs a new layer to dig through to find hiding critters and covered goodies, and any tracks left behind are easier to see and therefore to follow.”
Even so, some caution is required when introducing a new puppy to snow for the first time. Wrapping up warm and keeping excursions short and sweet is recommended.
Yet, if there’s one piece of advice to offer a new dog owner in this kind of scenario, it’s to make sure you capture the experience on camera. Then you might end up with the kind of heartwarming footage captured in the clip shared by sophiethedoxie.
Captioned “My First Snow Day” the video sees Sophie, wrapped up in a tiny little coat, bopping around in the snow. “It was a bit hard to walk…but I enjoyed it a lot” the on-screen text explains as the young pup explores her newly frosted surroundings.
Sophie was not the only one to enjoy the Dachshund’s snowy adventure either as the comments posted alongside the video showed.
Sagelining said: “This is the cutest thing ever,” with The Weather Channel writing: “That first snow day is so magical.” Microsoft Surface said: “we’re not crying, you’re crying,” while Sarah Elizabeth Jones commented: “Oh my god I just can’t with this.”
Elsewhere, helovesphiphi confessed they were “actually crying” while watching the video with SherryKat524 admitting, bizarrely, “this makes me SOO happy and I hate snow.” Llamacornnj7, meanwhile, spoke for many when he told Sophie’s owner “Your dog is the sweetest, most adorable dog ever.”
