I’m A Celebrity’s Owen Warner is struggling to get over witnessing Matt Hancock use bird poo like it was moisturiser.

The Hollyoaks actor couldn’t hide his disgust when the politician happily wiped away the droppings on his chair with his bare hands after Scarlette Douglas pointed out the mess on Friday.

Viewers pointed out the irony of Hancock’s lax attitude to hygiene in the jungle as he was the health secretary setting the public health agenda during the coronavirus pandemic.

The politician once advised the nation to wash their hands throughout the duration of singing ‘happy birthday’ twice to ensure they were properly clean.

In reference to Hancock’s previous guidance, Owen said of the bird poo incident in the Bush Telegraph: ‘That is our former Health Secretary… ‘happy birthday twice’ he told me and he’s just given a little [flick] after touching poo with his bare hands!’

On Thursday’s episode, the role of camp cook was left vacant following the departure of Charlene White, who became the first celeb to be booted out by the public.

Mike Tindall, who is in charge of the jungle, along with his deputy, Sue Cleaver, decided Hancock would take over the culinary reins.

Coronation Street actor Sue said: ‘When Charlene left it meant that we had a position open up for the camp chef.’

Mike said: ‘My first thought is Matt, the dunny’s a two-minute job, so I thought three tasks is easier,’ to which Matt replied: ‘No problem.’

Owen joked: ‘Wash your hands after,’ in a clear dig at Hancock wiping away bird poo in a carefree manner.

Elsewhere in the episode, the stars got personal in a Mr and Mrs-style challenge, in which they had to answer personal questions about one another.

The Partners in Grime challenge saw the 10 remaining campmates couple off and given 30 minutes to learn everything about each other, before being quizzed.

The paris were Hancock and Seann Walsh, Scarlette and Babatunde Aleshe, Mike and his best jungle mate Sue, Boy George and Chris Moyles and Jill Scott and Owen.

After two weeks Down Under it appears the stars have got to know each other well, as they came back with the maximum 10 stars.

I’m A Celebrity continues at 9pm tomorrow on ITV.
