This incredible image of an “Amazon snake cat” is simply that — incredible.
An image of the so-called Serpens Catus, a feline with black and neon yellow stripes looking like a snake, went viral Tuesday in social networks posts declaring it to be the “rarest species of feline on Earth.”
“Serpens catus is the rarest species of feline on Earth. These Animals live in hard-to-reach regions of the Amazon rainforest, and therefore they are relatively poorly studied,” a Twitter user claimed. “The first images capturing the snake cat appeared only in the 2020. Weighs up to 56 lbs.”
One now-deleted Reddit post stood out of numerous commenters who flagged the feline as not being fur genuine.
“Obvious fake No known gene can produce natural hair or fur of those (navy and bright yellow) colors,” one commenter said.
“Really rough attempt at a fake Latin name,” a 2nd individual chimed in. “One google about species naming would have made this a lot less obvious.”
The Post has actually connected to zoology professionals to validate the credibility of the image.
However, the color and patterns in the image bear a strong similarity to the boiga dendrophila, which is typically described as the “gold-ringed cat snake.”
According to the Smithsonian’s Zoo and National preservation biology institute, the snake is discovered in the exact same nations where the Amazon snake cat was reported to be discovered.
The so-called snake cat crawled its method onto TikTok where one user declared that the types resided in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guyana and Suriname.
“He’s in the next fantastic beasts,” chuckled one user referencing the “Harry Potter” spin-off franchise.
“Use this s–t for good not to misinform,” knocked another user.
“Stop sharing bulls–t,” condemned another individual.
