The Fort Worth Zoo in Fort Worth, Texas, launched 55 Louisiana pine snakes hatched and raised at the Zoo in the Kisatchie National Forest. The Louisiana pine snake is among the rarest types of snakes in North America, and the Fort Worth Zoo is among just 4 breeding centers for this types. This was the Zoo’s seventh yearly release and the most snakes launched in one year (2 of the Zoo’s partners, Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, Texas, and Memphis Zoo in Memphis, Tenn., likewise launched snakes.
The Fort Worth Zoo takes part in a breeding program that preserves a healthy, varied population of the types. The Zoo supplies hatchlings for release back into its native environment to develop a self-sufficient population.
