Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the understand.
There’s an incisive accuracy to Mama Snake’s craft, that makes sense considered that the Copenhagen DJ and label employer is likewise a certified cosmetic surgeon. Very much ingrained in her home city’s dance music scene, Mama Snake – genuine name Sara Svanholm – formerly formed part of the given that dissolved techno trio Apeiron Crew.
Now, Svanholm directs multi-disciplinary platform Amniote Editions, with their fondness for tough and blissful speculative club sounds shown in a skillfully curated output that consists of releases from Kris Esfandiari’s NGHTCRWLR alias, Sisilisko (aka Celestial Trax) and D.Dan’s Sidewinder job to discuss a couple of.
For their sets, Mama Snake tends towards fittingly smooth and wriggling techno anomalies that vary from percussive hypnotherapy to trance-infused, high-energy strength. Ahead of her look at this year’s Dour Festival, Mama Snake curates a playlist that shows the energy she’ll be bringing for her dusk-time set.
“As my set time for this year’s Dour will be from right before sunset until it’s fully dark, the NRG will be the intersection between light and darkness – dusk is such a magical time in summer,” they inform us. “In Denmark, where I’m from, it can sometimes feel like dusk lasts forever because of our long days and short nights. It’s moody and uplifting at the same time, this playlist is a showcase of this. To be played either in the order it’s presented in, but is meant to also work in shuffle mode.”
