The National Pet Dog Program includes different types of puppies divided into 7 classifications (sporting, pester, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, and herding), all completing for the grand reward of Best in Program. The groups will complete versus each other to win Best in Type to go on to the next round, and just one canine in each classification will be selected. The pets that make it will then complete for First in Type, and the winners of those rounds will then complete for Best in Program, where one unique canine will be designated the highly-competitive title. In general, the pets are evaluated based upon how they satisfy the requirements of their particular types.
