Let’s face it: all of us enjoy a good snuggle with our furry friends from time to time, and for much of us, letting our dogs climb into bed with us at the end of the day is the best method to loosen up.

But one veterinarian has actually provided an immediate caution versus letting your dog share your bed, as it might in fact threaten to let them under the covers.

Katy Alexander, a veterinary research study lead at Blue Cross, explained that letting your dog into your bed can put them at threat of getting too hot, and while puppies, older dogs, and flat-faced types are the most at threat, overheating can be hazardous to any dog.

Speaking to the Telegraph, she said: “Very little dogs, puppies, elderly dogs, and dogs with arthritis or other movement issues might have a hard time to discover a safe exit if they are getting too hot.”

The specialist explained that dogs have a natural body temperature level that’s a couple of degrees greater than people, that makes them more vulnerable to overheating as it does not take much for their temperature to get too expensive.

She alerted owners of flat-faced types such as French Bulldogs and Pugs need to “be additional alert” as there’s an increased threat of them getting too hot.

However, if your dog can’t withstand the desire to climb up into bed with you, there are some indication you can keep an eye out for to ensure they’re safe.
