Longtime Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans should read IDW’s newest comic.’

Star Trek comics are flooding the market at the moment, and IDW doesn’t seem to have any signs of slowing down. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t embrace the concept, as there are some gems out there. The one we’re talking about today is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Dog of War. It’s basically a story of the Deep Space Nine crew following in love with a little corgi. Sure, there’s more to the story than just that, but that is the premise.

In the series’ second issue, that released on May 3, the book seemingly centers around Quark bonding with the little guy. So much so that he actually comes to understand why the “ho-mans” like dogs so much; they’re great listeners.

The only problem is, the dog is set to be sold to a client in the coming days and Quark doesn’t know what to do without him. Though, he doesn’t let people in on the fact that he’s fallen for the four-legged fur friend.

At the end of the issue, we find out that the dog, whose name is Latinum (aka Latty) is going to be sold to a poacher, and this finally shows the audience how much Quark cares for the animal.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Dog of War features DS9’s first Borg sub-plot

Star Trek is known for using various alien races in every show to some degree. Klingons, Vulcans, Romulans, and the like have all popped up in every series at some point in time. Except, in the case of Deep Space Nine, the Borg.

The Borg have never officially been part of DS9’s canon, until Dog of War, which is in fact recognized as canon (for now) for the Star Trek franchise. So if you’re into the idea of reading how the events of Latty play out, next to the backdrop of a Borg-centric storyline, then Dog of War is for you.
