A sniffer dog discovered 50,000 unlawful cigarettes throughout raids at stores throughout Glasgow.
Tobacco detection dog Boo assisted Trading Standards officers throughout searches at 4 businesses in Govanhill.
The facilities were gone to as Operation CeCe Scotland, a joint effort in between Scottish Trading Standards Services and HMRC to take on the illegal tobacco trade at the retail level.
Trained Boo sought the cigarettes and had his efforts applauded by Glasgow City Council.
In a tweet the other day, GCC said: “Tobacco detection dog, Boo, sought around 50,000 illegal cigarettes in 4 stores while out with our Trading Standards officers &@PSOSGreaterGlas in Govanhill. She looks really pleased with herself too. Well done Boo! Treats ahoy!”
Boo had the ability to discover illegal cigarettes that otherwise would not show up throughout a regular assessment.
A representative said: “Our recent operation, in collaboration with Police Scotland, was a success thanks to Boo, the tobacco detection dog who assisted trading requirements officers discover over 50,000 illegal cigarettes in 4 facilities in the Govanhill location.
“The sees were performed as part of Operation CeCe Scotland which is a joint effort in between Scottish Trading Standards Services and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to take on the unlawful tobacco trade at retail level.
