Girl and girl injured as officers shoot, kill aggressive canine in downtown Omaha condo building

The incident occurred on the second ground of the building situated 305 S. sixteenth St., or close to the sixteenth and Farnam Streets intersection, round 11:18 a.m. Wednesday.

According to particulars from police spokesman Lt. Neal Bonacci and a press launch from police, two officers went to the building in response to a trespassing name. While there, police stated, they heard a person screaming. The officers noticed two dogs, together with a “large-breed, Rottweiler-type canine,” growling and barking at one another.

A gaggle of bystanders tried to separate the combating dogs, however had been unable to take action, Bonacci stated. After the officers rushed up the steps, they informed the bystanders to again up. One officer fired his weapon and a bullet struck and killed the Rottweiler-type canine.

Seconds later, Bonacci stated, officers realized that two of the bystanders, the lady and the girl, had been hit by both projectiles or particles. The lady and girl had been taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for accidents not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are conducting an inner investigation into the incident, which was captured on officers’ body-worn cameras.
