LOGAN — Despite the flooding stresses the summer season traveler season is underway and summer season residents will quickly be showing up.   Already there are things to do in the valley for residents and visitors alike.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday, Julie Hollist-Terrell of the Cache Valley Visitor’s Bureau spoke about a few of the occasions.

“The Mount Ogden Kennel Club is having a Dog Show down at the (Cache County) fairgrounds, it’s free. They have 700 purebred dogs that are here from all over the countryand they’ve got 125 different breeds. And you can see them, take your own lawn chair and sit out on the fairgrounds and you can see them showing the dogs and just seeing how they prepare them and groom them and talk to breeders, that’s going on,” she explained.

That continues through Sunday.  Postponed from April, since of continued snowy weather condition, Baby Animal Days will be hung on Memorial weekend at the American West Heritage Center. But Hollist – Terrell said there’s more that weekend.

They are combining their Baby Animal Days festival with the Cache Valley Mountain Man Rendezvousand it is going to be awesome. So, you can do everything from, like, on the Baby Animal Festival side, you can do train rides and you can do pony rides. And they’ve got exotic animals that you can see and pet including camels and little kangaroos, and one of the most popular things is baby turtles that kids like to hold. But, you can pet the pigs and the cows, I mean…it is just so much fun.”

And she noted a few of the occasions with the Mountain Man Rendezvous.

“We’ve got a whole slew of re-enactors who are going to be there doing demonstrations from how to start a fire with flint and steel to scrimshaw working to doing black powder rifle demonstrations. You can throw a hatchet, you can try the tomahawk, you can really interact hands-on with all of these activities.”
