An Albany County Sheriff’s vehicle
Will Waldron/Times UnionWESTERLO — A volunteer firemen saved a dog that had actually failed the ice on a pond, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple Sr. said. Then the dog bit him.
Just after 11:30 a.m., the Albany County Sheriff’s Office got a call about the dog’s predicament off Camp Lane.
As the very first responders showed up, a volunteer firemen from the town of East Berne Fire Department securely connected himself to coast, got in the water and effectively rescued the goldendoodle, Apple said in a press release. During the rescue, the firemen sustained a cut to his face after being bitten by the dog.
The firemen was dealt with at the scene and required to Albany Medical Center for more examination.
