BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A fire traced to an ignored gas heating unit damaged a motor home parked along Stevens Road early Wednesday early morning, authorities said. Biological stays discovered inside triggered a death examination, which identified they were of the homeowner’s big dog.
Several passing drivers on their method to work alerted authorities of the fire around 3:40 a.m. along Stevens Road simply east of 27th Street, Deputy Fire Marshal Dan Derlacki said.
Bend Fire & Rescue teams showed up to discover the motor home totally ablaze. They rapidly stopped the fire, keeping it from infecting close-by brush and power poles, Derlacki said, including that nobody was discovered around the recreational vehicle at the time.
“During the investigation, biological remains were found in the motor home,” the fire authorities said in a press release.
Due to the degree of damage, darkness and place of the remains, Bend Police started a death examination.
After the motor home’s resident returned and the sun increased, authorities “identified the remains were, in reality, that of the resident’s big dog who regrettably died in the fire, Derlacki help.
The fire obviously began with a propane-fired heating unit left on ignored while the resident was away, Derlacki said.
“It’s unclear if the heater malfunctioned or if some sort of combustible ignited on or near the heater,” he said.
The motor home and contents were a total loss, approximated at $4,000.
