ALTON — Shots called out Wednesday afternoon on hectic College Avenue near Alton Fire Station No. 2 when a Madison County deputy was gone after by a dog.
According to authorities, at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday the deputy apparently was trying to serve legal files for an order of defense at a house near the station house when 2 dogs started to chase him. As the deputy was fleing from the dogs, he ran onto the apron in front of the station house and fired at least one shot towards the dogs, according to a witness.
One of the dogs was struck in the leg. No individuals were hurt.
An Alton Animal Control officer said the dog suffered a deep gash in the leg, however no one was bitten. Animal Control left the dog in care of the homeowner so they might look for medical attention for the animal.
At least 5 Madison County deputies reacted to the scene. Deputies left the scene at about 2:25 p.m. Wednesday. No additional info was right away available.
