Coronation Street’s Maureen Lipman in tears over death of Cerberus the dog as it revived agonizing memories of her own loss

Coronation Street fans were troubled over heartbreaking scenes which saw Cerberus the greyhound put to sleep after the improperly dog consumed an Eccles cake. Viewers of the ITV soap were alerted of distressing scenes as gran Evelyn Plummer was required to state a tearful goodbye to her relied on pooch.

Tragedy struck on the cobbles after, in last Wednesday’s episode, Evelyn contacted Roy Cropper’s coffee shop with Cerberus in tow. When the veterinarian recommended gastrointestinal disorder, a guilty Roy revealed he’d dropped an Eccles cake in the café including currans which are toxic to dogs



The typically stoic Evelyn wept as she covered her boy in a blanket and bid farewell, and starlet Maureen Lipman was likewise in tears genuine as she shot the scenes after her own terrible loss, reports the Mirror.

“Thank you for being the very best boy, the prince of Weatherfield,” Evelyn said about her ‘biggest buddy’ as the veterinarian administered the injection. There was a profusion of sorrow on Twitter as the country grieved in addition to her.

Maureen remembered about the scenes: “The animal looked so hangdog on its last day, I swear he knew the storyline. It was incredibly sad. One of the girls in make-up asked if I needed a tear stick. I told her I needed something to stop me crying, not start me.”

Maureen, who has actually played Tyrone Dobbs’ battleaxe gran Evelyn because 2018, says the story rekindled agonizing memories for her. She explained: “Last year, my 16-year-old dog Diva needed to be put down. She’d been coughing for weeks so I understood it was completion.
