CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns presented the 5 finalists for its brand-new dog logo design and opened voting to narrow it down to 2. Scooby-Doo and Snoopy did not make the group. Neither did Goofy, Pluto, Marmaduke or Odie, to name a few, despite the fact that the group appears to be going for a younger cartoony design and appearance.

It appears Snoopy may have had a much better possibility of making it if he had actually altered out of his Red Barron equipment for Orange and Brown Barron boodle matched with a spiked dog collar and grimace.

Blue from Blues Clues was the incorrect color and would have a much better possibility riding with the Indianapolis Colts. Although in fact being brown didn’t help Scooby-Doo make it as the Browns logo design, despite the fact that he in addition to Shaggy training might have assisted lastly fix the secret of why the Browns haven’t been to the Super Bowl, not to mention won one yet.

DIXON DAWG POUND FOUNDER

The Browns former All Pro defensive back Hanford Dixon established the Dawg Pound and the Dawg as the team’s modern day mascot when he began barking during games with All Pro Frank Minnifield and fans soon following along. Brownie the elf at midfield would be more accurate if he also now had a dog mask on and was holding a dog bone along with the football.

CANTON & CLEVELAND BULLDOGS

Another reason the dog mascot fits Northeast Ohio is that pro football was born in Canton where Jim Thorpe played for the Canton Bulldogs, which at one time also briefly played in Cleveland under the name Cleveland Bulldogs

Canton Bulldogs main logo design was a classic block C. When they did use a bulldog logo it was a full body graphic of a bulldog sitting or standing that was more illustrative than the cartoon/comic style of the current Browns dog logo and the finalists to replace it. The Browns could have tried something like the Canton Bulldogs full body graphic/illustrative style mirroring their actual live Bull Mastiff at games and the two big fiberglass ones the group runs between onto the field.

The Browns current dog logo, below, was introduce throughout the team’s rebrand in 2015. Haven’t seen it adopted by many fans. I can see why and why the team’s now trying to replace the fumble.

This was the Cleveland Browns 2nd take at a dog logo introduce in 2015

The too childish Orange Mutt logo above had replaced the Browns first dog logo introduced in 2003, below, that was more in the adult style of the Chicago Bears logo of a bear.

Voted for this first dog logo when I bought a brown ball cap with it on to go along with my white ball cap fronted by the classic Brownie the fairy.

According to the Cleveland Browns official website, voting to narrow the five finalists to 2 ends on May 24.
