Robbie Williams has recorded a brand new song and starred in an advert for cat food brand Felix.

The singer, 48, has written a new jingle called It’s Great To Be a Cat for a new advertising campaign, pet care company Purina announced on Wednesday.

Robbie has taken his career as a pop star in a new direction as he is starring in an advert for cat food brand Felix, rather than taking to the stage.

As well as belting out his catchy new song in the advert, the global superstar will be the voice of the famous feline Felix.

Photographs unveiling the news showed Robbie holding a mug which read ‘I love cats’ as he relaxed on an armchair surrounded by his feline friends.

He cut a smart figure in a black shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to show off his tattoos, and straight leg jeans as he petted the cats.

The Angels hitmaker was seen having his make-up touched up while he styled his silver locks in a slicked-back style for the photoshoot.

Speaking about the campaign, Robbie said: ‘The cat is out of the bag, I’m the new voice of Felix.

‘I’ve been a long-time fan of cats, I’ve had many feline friends over the years and after studying their fascinating behaviour, I can confidently say, It’s Great To Be a Cat.’

In a video, Robbie also explained that he has always wanted to write a song for an advert as he described his latest track as an ‘earworm’.

He said: ‘I wanted to write a song for an advert, and this song is an absolute earworm. Melody’s good, lyrics good, music’s good. People will feel soft and warm and fuzzy, then feel annoyed that the song’s still in their head.’

‘It’s great to be a cat because you always end up landing on your feet, just like me,’ he added.

Fabio Degli Esposti, Group Marketing Director at Purina said: ‘Combining our much-loved FELIX food and treasured Felix-the-cat character, with the one-and-only Robbie Williams, gives us our best recipe yet. The two being mischievous together in their very own film premiere, shows exactly why they’re the perfect fit.’

Rebecca Marshall, Senior Brand Manager at, Purina UK&I said: ‘I’m so excited to be launching our latest It’s Great To Be a Cat campaign with Robbie Williams. The two truly are the pURRfect match and the new track is one that will definitely get everyone in a playful mood.’

Robbie’s song is available to stream on Spotify while the advert will air exclusively on YouTube at 5pm on January 25.

His latest career venture comes after Robbie and Mark Owen thrilled Take That fans as they reunited in a funny Instagram video on Sunday.

The pair were filmed by Robbie’s wife Ayda Field as they tucked into pizza while bizarrely sitting in high chairs.

Mark, 50, and Robbie joked that they were the babies of the band as they sat in high chairs belonging to Robbie’s daughter Coco, four, and son Beau, two.

Ayda quipped: ‘I enjoyed both of you guys in the baby chairs. I think its a good look’, as Robbie replied: ‘There was nowhere else for us of sit. And also we’re the babies of the band.’

Fans were very excited to see the two singers together, rushing to thank Ayda for sharing the clip.

The reunion comes after Mark recently said he ‘would love’ Robbie to rejoin Take That.

Take That formed in 1989 and went on to achieve 12 number one singles on the UK Singles Chart along with eight number one albums and are currently the most successful boy band in UK chart history.

The original line-up featured Robbie, 47, who left the band in 1995 and forged a phenomenally successful solo career. The group disbanded a year later.

In 2006 the band – minus Robbie – reunited and enjoyed great success once more.

Robbie returned to the band in 2010 for new album Progress but stepped down once in 2014.

Mark has previously said he, Gary Barlow and Howard Donald were planning their next LP as a three-piece, but hoped Robbie may join them at some point.

Take That fans have also been waiting for the release of Greatest Days.

The film follows a young boyband inspired by, but not the same, as the real-life pop group and compromises newcomers Aaron Bryan, Dalvin Cory, Joshua Jung, Mark Samaras and Mervin Noronha.
